Work Report for 2011 / Work Plan for 2012
2011 – Work Report
In 2011 we were able to complete our performing costumes – funds gained on the tender by KBŠ (the Club of Bela Krajina Students) for youth activites were of great help to us in this project. In 2011 the folklore group Zeleni Jurij had 35 members. We had 2-hour practices during weekends, every Friday and Saturday. We were mostly practising dancing and singing, but we dedicated some time to developing acting abilities to help us perform in front of the public. In October we were practising in Vranoviči, but moved to Srednja šola Črnomelj (Secondary school Črnomelj) in November. In March we successfully carried out an hour long performance titled Kaj misliš, da je lahko bit folklornik? (Do You Think it is Easy to be a Folklorist?); In April we traditionally organized the festival of Spring – Jurjevo; in June we had two performances at Jurjevanje festival in Črnomelj – with a coreography of dances and with Črnomelj’s ceremonial dances; in July we had a tour to Jelah in Bosnia and Herzegovina; and in November we hosted the folklore group KUD Maslina from Turanj. Besides these we also performed in Metlika, Predgrad, Vinomer and Slovenska Bistrica. The singing section of our folklore group, Devojčice Zelenega Jurija, had a performance in Rodine and Črnomelj. We have also collaborated with other folklore groups, especially tamburitza players from Adlešiči, children’s folkore group Miran Jarc Črnomelj and MKD sv. Ciril in Metod from Kranj. We also bought some instruments – tamburitzas and a bass.
2012 – Work Plan In 2012 our goal is to finally get a better music section – we already have some musicians, but we still need to get the proper instruments. This is why we have already purchased some used tamburitzas and a bass – we got some of the tamburitzas for free as a gift. Sadly all the instruments are used and consequently basically useless until we are able to get them fixed – however, getting them fixed is still going to cost us less than buying new ones. Our wish is to also get players of other folk instruments besides tamburitzas – for example, gudalo or whistles. If the funds will allow us we are also going to buy an accordion, since we are now using a borrowed one. Our goal is to also improve our musical knowledge, this is why we are going to organize a course for playing Bela krajina’s folk instruments. In this way we would like to get a music section to accompany us on our practices, performances and to also be able to perform on its own or with our singing section, Devojčice Zelenega Jurija. Besides these plans, regular weekly practices, a performance in Croatia and several performances around Slovenia, we are planning to apply a project about Bela Krajina’s ceremonial dances to the Youth in Action programme in June, together with FS Metlika, FS Predgrad and FS Dragatuš. In this project we are planning to research the Bela Krajina’s ceremonial dances, do several interviews, tape a documentary about the project, publish a bulletin and have several performances.
